Never let anyone tell you people appreciate Jane and Rafael because now they do lame, cheesy dances. Fuck that. Jafael fans are not about that life.
Jafael fans love (and always loved) Jane and Rafael because he challenged her. He challenges her all the time. Rafael’s mantra is not what would Jane do, he doesn’t care what she is comfortable with or feels safe with. Rafael’s mantra for Jane has always been be bolder, go bigger, do things that scare you. People fell for Jane and Rafael because there used to be these long honest conversations between them almost every other episode. They talked about their deep fears and desires with each other. Through their conversations we got to know Jane stopped writing because she was afraid of failure and that is why she pursued teaching. We got to know Rafael’s fear of failure made him do terrible things. We got to find out how he was lost his entire life and then went to dark place when he was sick. We found out their dreams of a perfect family living in a white picket fence house. They talked about their parents, their view of life. We lost that at the end of season 2 and early season 3. It came back post 3x10 and that is what got us excited about them again. We like it when they talk because that is their thing.
Jane and Rafael are an exceptional couple. They don’t need shit from another couple to be better. They have evolved in their own way while maintaining the things fans loved about them most.
